Good Energy Selects Open Utility Platform
Open Utility, a London-based energy technology start-up, has announced that Good Energy, a leading UK-based renewable electricity supplier, has selected the company's Piclo software to enable its business customers to benefit from buying local renewable energy directly from a wide portfolio of generators across the UK.
The agreement follows the successful 6-month trial involving a pilot group of Good Energy customers and generators. The multi-year agreement allows Good Energy to extend the offering to all eligible business customers and renewable generators. Good Energy businesses customers will use the online service for enhanced transparency and control of their energy supply and the ability to match with local renewable generators.
The Piclo platform enables Good Energy to launch a new local renewable energy procurement solution for business customers, underpinned by Open Utility's proprietary peer-to-peer energy matching algorithms. The online service will provide customers with a refined user experience and access to data and analytics. Good energy will manage all aspects of market rollout, customer recruitment and program administration.
Juliet Davenport, Good Energy CEO and founder said: "Good Energy would like to see a decentralised energy system where control is in the hands of the people and businesses who use it. Open Utility has developed a digital platform which offers end users more choice and control. We look forward to developing a proposition which is attractive to business users and renewable generators."
James Johnston, CEO of Open Utility said: "In a highly competitive UK electricity market, transparency and choice are the keys to success. Good Energy has recognised that their business customers want to buy renewable electricity from local generators. The Piclo Platform gives them the unique ability to provide customers with the data and control over their energy supply chain through a simple and intuitive online service. We are thrilled to have secured our first customer and to contribute to the success of Good Energy."
