AMD is to reduce its global workforce by 2000 people, representing 15% of its staff. The action is to be completed by the end of Q2 2003. The company wants to reduce its breakeven point and cut costs by $350mn in 2003.

The company wants to reduce its breakeven point and cut costs by $350mn in 2003. Some 1000 of the affected employees have already been notified. The reduction is being implemented across operations in the USA, Europe and Asia. A scaling back of capital expenditure is also planned.
