Juwi Renewable Energies Applies To Build A Solar Park Near Skegness

juwi Renewable Energies Limited, has applied to East Lindsey District Council for permission to build a solar park on land in Croft, near Skegness.

The Hollies Solar Park will be about 10MW comprising 875 photovoltaic (PV) solar arrays in an area of about 21 hectares (55 acres), and uses just under 42,000 panels. The Park will generate an estimated 8,560,000 KWh of renewably generated electricity every year, equivalent to the demand of around 1,800 homes.

The solar power generated will help the UK meet its renewable energy targets, increase our security ofenergy supply (decreasing our dependence on expensive gas imports) and help to reduce the UK's CO2 emissions. The Hollies will displace between 3,380 and 7,320 tonnes of CO2 per year.

There will be opportunities for local contractors to be involved in the construction process, including civil and electrical engineering trades. Gary O'Connor, juwi Construction Manager confirmed: 'We always look to use local companies wherever possible to supply and install, such as local electricians and fencing contractors'.

Jan Sisson, the Managing Director of juwi Renewable Energies said: "˜Solar PV "˜harvests the sun' and is an alternative form of agricultural land use that brings financial stability for farmers. We have entered into a lease with the farmer for the land on which the PV park will be built. The farmer is still able to use the land for agriculture by grazing the land for sheep. The land can rest for 21 years before returning to agriculture'.

juwi is expecting to hear the outcome of the planning process by the end of July and if positive, the construction would begin in September with the planned completion by the end of the year.
