Two Solar Farms Approved In One Day For BIG60Million
Hull Solar Farm and Northallerton Solar Farm will take Big60Million solar capacity in Yorkshire over the 100 MWp mark.
Big60Million has received planning permission for two new solar farms in Yorkshire in one day! Hull Solar Farm, to be constructed near the village of Bilton in East Yorkshire, will have a generation capacity of 31 MWp (megawatt peak) while Northallerton Solar Farm, near East Cowton in North Yorkshire, will generate 28 MWp.
Together with the 50 MWp York Solar Farm approved last month, the approvals means the company will have delivered nearly 110 MWp of new clean energy capacity to Yorkshire "” enough to power the equivalent of well over 30,000 homes and offset more than 46 million kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
Consultation events were arranged jointly with development partners: Arup for Hull Solar Farm and Luminous Energy for Northallerton Solar Farm.
Big60Million was set up as a community benefit energy company with a mission to help the 60 million residents of the UK to benefit directly from new community solar farms developed in their areas.
Local people will have the opportunity to benefit financially by investing in the new solar farms, and we will be implementing habitat management plans to support wildlife and biodiversity at both sites.
Both sites will also remain in small-scale agricultural use. At Hull Solar Farm, sheep will graze the land between and around the solar arrays. At Northallerton, we will be cultivating meadow grass that will be harvested to provide hay and silage for cattle feed.
